For those of you that do rewatch TV series (or movies), what do you always go back to?

The Simpsons was a staple for me for a long time since you’d probably have around 6 different airings of the show between 5PM - 10PM, at least while I was growing up.

That changed as I got older, but of course I cut the cord a while ago and haven’t had cable in a long time.

However, my habit of re-watching stuff that I love never went away; since I dropped cable, I think I’ve watched The Sopranos the most, followed by Initial D. I generally don’t re-watch anime for some reason but Initial D just does it for me.

Movies, it’s easily The Lord of the Rings trilogy (yes, that’s a lot of hours to re-watch) and when I was a kid it was Independence Day (it’s a perfect movie...........) but that’s just me.

What about yall Oppos?

I have seen the entirety of Futurama at least 10 times. I had Commando stuck in my VCR for about 2 years. I had no cable and DVD’s weren’t a thing yet, and I ended up watching it almost everyday during that time. I was afraid that if I got Commando out my VCR would stop working and I would really be screwed. I will still watch Commando if it comes on TV these days and my wife hates it.

I go out of my way to watch Back to the Future at least once a month, plus anytime I catch it on tv. For TV I always go back to Titus, The Simpsons, Bobs Burgers, Rick And Morty, the seasons of SVU before Stabler left, House, you get the idea.

Overall I love movies so I watch tons of stuff over and over again, but BTTF is the most important movie to me.

I used to re-watch Top Gear all the time, but I think I stopped re-watching a lot of the episodes towards the end of the May/Short/Ape BBC era.

Season 10 is the one that does it for me, I think that season had episodes with the 599, the Peel P50, the best driving road with the lightened sports cars, and a bunch of other great stuff. Loved the long-distance races, especially the stuff in Japan, and their specials like North Pole and Vietnam are spectacular.

I never really got into Friends when it was around. Girls at the time loved it but I never really got into it since I loved re-runs of The Simpsons above anything else.

I remember watching a season with a girl in university, and I did enjoy it at the time.

I started watching from Season 1 recently, but it doesn’t seem great to me. I’m quite sure the season I saw was a few seasons into its run but it reminded me how much I dislike laugh-tracked  comedy TV.

Hypocritically, I do like Seinfeld, despite the laugh track. That said, Curb Your Enthusiasm is my kind of show.

band of brothers

Have you read Ambrose’s other WWII books? I absolutely devoured D-Day and Citizen Soldiers , but got bogged down in Band of Brothers, perhaps because it was written as a bit of an afterthought with material left over from the other two books. Accusations of plagiarism aside, Ambrose writes a compelling historical narrative that is eminently approachable.

+1 on Futurama. Certain episodes I’ll focus on different things, like picking out the “alien” language (simple letter swap for the common one) and deciphering it (since it’s English with different letters, not a translation) without passing, or picking up on background elements that aren’t part of the main action (Robot Hell is particularly amusing depending on the episode). I definitely have my favorite and less-favorite episodes, and others have stood the test of time better (The Killer App is still poignantly spot-on) than others.

I’ve lost count how many times my wife and I have rewatched Firefly and its companion movie Serenity. Admittedly it’s easier to say you’ve rewatched an entire series because it was only one season long anyway (dammit!). Regardless, we watch it no less than once a year. Only takes about a weekend, and the episodes are a good length to, say, do a load of laundry in between, so we actually are still functional adults, not TV-addicted zombies.

I’ve seen the original Star Wars trilogy a lot. The other SW movies, not so much. Depending on what else is on, I’ll have the most recent SW movies on if a channel is broadcasting them so that way they’re playing, but I’m able to do other things at the same time, so if there’s a scene I like or dislike I can give it due attention at the time (hooray for live DVR).

The last part also applies to Top Gear reruns on BBC America. I may not pay attention to it, but I might have it on in the “background” and tune in for parts of the episodes I want to see again (the orange Focus ST review by Clarkson gets me every time, for example).

Same largely applies to Dead Like Me (owned), Pushing Daisies (owned), Futurama, Archer, Sherlock, Downtown Abbey, and other series that get rerun frequently on TV, like Big Bang Theory and certain episodes of How I Met Your Mother (despite the highly irritating and dissatisfying ending episode which put me off rewatching any episodes until earlier this year when they had a marathon and it happened to be on in the work break room).

As for other movies: Jurassic Park (just the first one); the first Matrix; my wife’s beloved Princess Bride; Captain America, Avengers, and Guardians of the Galaxy movies, Ant-Man (still haven’t seen the newest one); various Pixar and Disney works (again, good background noise for cleaning the house and other household responsibilities; I fixed one of the household drains while Moana was on last weekend, right in time for the “You’re Welcome” song to play, to appropriate reactions from my darling wife). Gone in 60 Seconds, of course. Plus so many DVDs ans Blu-Rays...
